ink. - Part I

So I snagged a hard- to-get reservation at ink. about a month ago. Needless to say, I was super excited. Blog posts were rampant and pouring in, people were raving about it, Michael Voltaggio is super hot ... you know, the usual praises. I couldn't wait to taste it for myself.

Located on Melrose close to La Cienega, the restaurant is on a corner and not auspicious at all. In fact, you'd hardly know it was there unless you were really looking for it. The inside is sleek and modern with lighting that is quite dim. Doesn't M.Voltaggio know he has a huge food blogger following and we all take pictures of everything we eat?? I happy ordered eleven courses and planned two more for dessert.

kale, burrata, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin preserves, yuzu

charred avocado, hen of the woods, whipped fish sauce, mushroom chicharrĂ³n

octopus and hiramasa, romaine hearts, fried caesar dressing

TO BE CONTINUED ...

That's right, to be continued. This was as far as we got before Boyfriend said he felt unwell and wanted to leave. Immediately. Yes yes, I was concerned about him but also wanted to cry out of sheer disappointment. After we grabbed my car from the valet and drove three blocks towards Kaier Permanente on Sunset, he said he felt better and just wanted to go home. Umm, WHAT!? No fucking way. You just made me leave a dinner that I had been eagerly counting down the days towards and now you want to go home? We are going to the hospital goddamnit.

Needless to say, after a trip to the Urgent Care and subsequently the Emergency Room, he is ok. I went to work the next morning and hit F5 on my browser until I could make a replacement reservation. ink. was nice enough to tweet me later during the day that they hoped for Boyfriend's speedy recovery and to look on their website for a replacement reservation. Would it have been too much to hope for an immediate guaranteed reservation without going through the site? Maybe - they are super popular.

Hopefully when I go again in a few weeks, I will be able to stay for the entire meal and have a lengthy, beautiful post. And yes, I had to use flash like an amateur. The restaurant was so dark!

  1. The table in the back corner (near the bathrooms) is fairly well-lit. Otherwise, yeah...it's tough.
