New Orleans - Café Du Monde

Cafe Du Monde is a New Orleans institution. People will wait line, in the sweltering heat, for hours to sit in their OUTDOOR patio. However, the day we went was pretty calm. There were only 30 people in the take-out line! I have no idea how it happened but Kimi and Sharlene were able to place our order with a randon busboy. As it turns out, the busboys/waiters take additional orders on the side. They get your beignets out to you quicker and without you having to stand in line, in hopes of tips. Nice!

We ordered cups of café au lait and frozen café au lait, which was kind of like a coffee frappacino. Being as I don't drink coffee (smells terrific but tastes like feet), I had half of a frozen one since it tasted less coffee-ish. The benegnits weren't "light as air" or "melt in your mouth" but it was a good snack on a hot day. Are there better benignets in Nawlins? I'm kind of sad I was underwhelmed by these.

  1. What?! You were underwhelemed?! The problem is clearly that you didn't eat them while sitting under A/C.
